Challenge your endurance by ascending 1,048 steps (equivalent to a half-mile) to reach the crater’s peak, where you’ll be treated to panoramic views spanning from Diamond Head in Waikiki to Sandy Beach on the stunning eastern coastline. This location ranks among the top spots on the entire island for both sunrise and sunset spectacles! Following the hike, we’ll make a stop at Koko Marina for a post-hike snack.

How fit do I need to be to do this hike?

The total elevation gain to the top of Koko Crater is approximately 912 feet, with an average grade of about 35%. We recommend that you be reasonably fit and have some experience hiking steep mountains or using the StairMaster at the gym. That being said, you don’t need to make it all the way to the summit to enjoy the view. If you only complete the less steep first half, you will still get a great workout and be able to enjoy spectacular sunset views.

What should I wear?

We recommend comfortable hiking shoes, sunglasses, and a hat.
